United States Snowboard Instructors

Welcome to the 1997/1998 Winter Season !!!

First of all I'd like to welcome you to this site and to welcome back the rest of you. We are heading into our second season in existance. I'd also like to say thanks to all of our supporters and members! Thank you!

Currents and Tides :

As we are genuinely, very pleased with the response and support that the first season has established, a significant element of growth needs to be established. Specifically, on snow presence. A website, though it has boundless potential, is only the first chair on the lift. Speaking of web sites and lifts, I'd like to thank Mr. M. as his support for snowboarding and the USSI has made this site possible and available to you. Thanks Mr. M.! As for lifts, my own personal favourite mountain and teaching/sledding grounds Wildcat Mt. at the base of Mt. Washington in NH has added a top to bottom, high speed quad that springs over 2000+ feet of vert in just over 6 minutes! I know I'm stoked!!!. Anyway, getting on...

On snow presence, this is going to require a few things, most importantly members. Members with ideas and the willingness to share them. The USSI, as an organization, is not about providing an authoritative standard towards snowboarding and the teaching of it. It's intent is to be a wealth of information for the sharing of the collective input and ideas from all members to be benefit by the sport of snowboarding itself as well as all those that take part in it.

The United States Snowboard Instructors association is being brought to you by snowboarders. What does this mean? This means that our entire agenda is snowboarding. We are dedicated to what currently is, what was and what will be snowboarding.

We still believe that no matter which way your snowboarding progresses, be it freestyle or giant slalom or boarder-X racing or the next facet of our sport yet to be discovered, that there should be an instructor to take you through the pipe, the gates or just into your first turn and then wherever else you want to go...

How about a little scoop:

Numb Technical First Layer Apparel;

The first industry manufacturer to officially endorse the USSI and to have a product endorsed officially by the USSI organization. Heres the make on their product tested by the USSI :

Product Tested: NUMB First Layer Top and Pant (high density removeable padding for hips, elbows, knees and butt)
Outstanding Qualities : It keeps you dry (very) and warm and it fits like a glove. The high density pads impact absorption qualities are a major plus.
Materials: Dupont Thermostat/Lycra fabrics
Conditions Tested in : -10F to 50f : land and sea

NOTES:

One person wore the top as a first layer under her wetsuit while surfing (Maine Winter Surf) and it still kept her warmer. No little feat.

While testing NUMB on a nice cold day about 10 degrees, I went into the ski shack to strip my wax and lay a nice fresh coat down, worked up a full sweat because I was in a hurry and didn't take off any layers and when I went outside back into the cold I was as warm and dry as I was before going in to wax.

If you're big on being warm and dry and/or padded these are a definate must!
You can contact NUMB... and they'll be glad to give you the latest scoop on their products as well as where you can get into em.

Performance Snowboards carries the NUMB gear in their catalog as well in the "underwear" department

With all of the different manufacturers of boards and equipment available out there you are almost certain to find a board you'll like with the qualities and measurements exactly or as close as is reasonable to what you want, right? Not always the case I can assure you. If you've searched high and low for that perfect stick to no avail, than a custom board my be your solution.

No, this is not an ad! We don't get any money for things like this. Everone is built differently and almost everyone rides differently so why not get a board that rides the way you do or the way you want to? If you surf, have you ever gotten yourself a custom stick? Well, the same reasons you would get a custom surfboard applies to your snowboard.

If you are even remotely interested this is a good place to start...

Chris has a good selection of production boards and custom templates as well as pretty big selection of used sticks. Send them some mail, tell them what you're looking for and if they can't find a suitable match they'll build it to your specs. Zip off some mail to Lisa and she'll be able to answer almost all of your questions I'm sure. Try not to bog em' down though, they didn't hire anyone just to answer email, they've a job to do. Good luck.

As Always... Have Fun!
